PEDODONTICS

Paediatric dentistry, also known as paediatric dentistry, is the branch of dentistry that prevents and treats odontostomatological pathologies in young and very young patients, in the age range from 2 to 16 years. At these times, the dental hygienist or paediatric dentist pays special attention to the prevention of carious lesions.

In order to obtain the cooperation of the youngest patients, it is very important to pay attention to the way one converses with them, so that children do not develop fears towards the dentist or in the event that they have already developed them can easily overcome them.

CORRECT ORAL HYGIENE

Correct oral hygiene, combined with healthy eating habits, makes it possible to safeguard the health of young patients' teeth, starting from milk teeth through to the final dentition. In this regard, the dentist must provide the child and parents with information regarding the rules of prevention and removal of bacterial plaque and the correct use of the toothbrush, verifying the state of health of teeth and gums over time through periodic check-ups.

PREVENTION

The role that prevention plays in paediatric orthodontics is fundamental. An examination of the child's masticatory functions and occlusion allows any dental misalignments or skeletal abnormalities (maxillary and mandibular) to be highlighted even in the presence of milk teeth alone. These alterations, if detected during the growth period, can be corrected through the use of orthodontic appliances, avoiding lengthy orthodontic treatment in adolescence or adulthood and recourse to possible extractions or orthognathic surgery.
